The Garden is near done

I canned some more tomatoes and peppers and now about all that is left in the garden are a few tomatoes and some peppers. BUT
the watermelons have finally come in and I am trying to eat them as fast as they ripen!!! I have the striped ones and the solid green sugar babies. They are sooo good.
The hay is all cut and put up now around the house and the dogs are just thrilled. I can now let them out and they can run all over the fields and I can still see them, cept when they get over the back hill. I have a big mouth so they can hear me calling them and they come running.
With the hay cut, I can now walk with them a bit. Hubby and I both walk with them on the weekends.
I thought you might get a kick out of seeing all my canned goods on the shelf I had to put in the kitchen to hold them all!!
See you later on,
Bonnie

Busy Beautiful Day

What a glorious day!! No rain! Woo Hoo!! The grass was soooo tall. All the critters were so happy to get out and stay out and play.

Molly and Lucky ran around and around and around the horse trailer as fast as they could!!

Even old lazy Beetle wanted out in the sun for awhile, but then when it warmed up he wanted back in the AC, big baby!!

The kitties seemed to enjoy the sun too!!! They were hiding in the weeds and popping out at the dogs!! It was so funny.

I cut grass for 2 1/2 hours!! Naturally I had to run over some more of the black edging and then I had to stop and pry it out!!! So then I told myself that I would be careful. NOT, I then ran over a darn feed sack and it got all tangled up around the blades. Soooo I had to give in and go get hubby to get it out for me!!

I started pulling up the garden. The cucumbers, cantalopes, green beans are all done now.

Today I got a 10 lb striped watermelon out of the garden and Oh My Goodness was it ever good!!! I have about 25 still in there hanging on not yet ripe.

I have some more tomatoes to can tomorrow and then there are still more out on the vines, but the deer are beginning to eat them up.

Well its getting late and I have a lot of emails to look at.
See ya around,
Bonnie

Rainy day Yucks

My goodness we have had so much rain. The ground just squishes when you walk on it. I have to practically throw the dogs out the door to go potty. The kitties dont mind it at all though.

I got the appts all set to get the kitties spayed and neutered. Gonna do all 3 of the boys together first and then the girls one at a time.

Leroy has 2 new tumors on his left side. We had a huge tumor taken off there last year. Thank goodness it was benign. I will have to call and see if we should have these taken off too.

It is getting really expensive to take care of all these critters. I sure hope they stay healthy during the winter.

Well gotta go do some laundry. See ya later,
Bonnie

A busy day

Boy yesterday was so busy. I spent hours canning things from the garden. I made Spaghetti sauce, Marinar sauce, stuffed peppers, canned banana peppers. It took forever to peel and puree those tomatoes!!! But boy does this sauce taste great. You should see this shelf I put in the kitchen to hold all my home canned goods. I have nearly 3 of the 4 shelves full already.

All the critters were very cooperative yesterday. The weather was so cool that they wanted to be outside and enjoying it.

BUT this morning they are up at 3am wanting to have breakfast already!! So I am got up and fed them and thought I would do a quick pop in.

Hope the rest of the day goes well for all of you,
Bonnie

Silly critters

Today I decided to seal the floors that I had taken the carpet up from with oil based paint.

So I ran all of the kitties outside, locked all of the dogs in the living room and set about painting the bedroom and kitchen floors with gray oil paint.

I got the bedroom done and then I got myself 3 bottles of water and proceeded to paint myself into the living room and settled in to wait for the pain to dry.

After 15 minutes I looked and OMG here came Blackie out of the bedroom and straight to the litter box. She then proceeded to jump up on the white kitchen counter top and come into the living room. Of course she left behind gray foot prints all over the counter top. I tried to catch her to wipe off her feet but she wanted no part of that and ran out the back door. She is gray on all 4 feet now!!

Later on I made myself a baked potato and I sat the near empty sour cream carton on the counter, went to the fridge and when I got back to the sour cream, Molly had gotten it and had her head stuck down inside of the container! I pulled it off of her and laughed my head off. There she was, a black schnoodle with a white face and looked like she was grinnin!!

Every day they make me laugh and today was really funny!!

Well it is bedtime now and all the critters have settled in to a place of their own, time for me to also.
Good night all and see you tomorrow!

My introduction to you all

Welcome to my Blog. I call it Bonnie's zoo because I have a small zoo of my own!!

Let me introduce you to myself and my critters.

I used to live in a large city in IL and 14 years ago moved to a farm in rural Ohio. It was to say the least a culture shock for me. I was used to the crowds of people everywhere and a million fast food restaurants and LOTS of shopping malls. There was none of that here. It actually took me several years to adjust. But I have and I am glad I am here.

I have a wonderful 30yr old daughter still back in IL along with my 82yr old father. My biggest hope is to be able to move back home there when we retire in a few years.

I worked for awhile at our counties local dog pound. That was a job I will never get over. It was then that I got into animal rescue. I rescued from our local pounds and from other Ohio pounds. I was associated for awhile with a local No Kill Shelter but they are just to far away for me to drive to on a regular basis.

I am disabled and I do WebDesign and graphic work. I belong to several online PSP groups and I am the owner of a Yahoo PSP/WebDesign group called Designing-Friends. I own the group along with a couple of very good friends. We are a small group but we have lots of fun and learn new things.

Now for my critters.
Mickey is a Neutered Male Min Pin who is 6yrs old. Our local pet groomers called me to say that they had been given a MinPin by a couple who had found him running down the streets of a local city. She had placed ads in that cities newspapers Lost & Found and no one had come forward for him for 2 weeks. When I first saw him, his name was Harley and Oh My he was a bundle of energy and nerves. I took him home and every time I opened the door, out he would run and down our 1/4 mile driveway straight to the main road. Thank goodness this is a rural road!! I would chase him in the car and bring him home everytime, except for the last. I got in the car and went after him and he would stop and look at me and when I would get close to him, he would turn and run the other way. So I said well be that way then and I turned the car around started back to the house. I got to where to turn into the driveway and I looked in the rear view mirror and there he was running after the car. So I pulled on up to the house and got out and sat down in a lawn chair. He came and went under the chair to rest. I snatched him up and took him in the house and scolded him big time. From then on I kept the door to the front porch closed. He has since developed thyroid disease and is quite heavy. Believe it or not he still tries to run away!! We call him MooMoo cause he is fat as a cow. He is a love bug.

Lucky is a Neutered Male terrier mix. We had come home one day and hubby said Oh My Mickey is under the truck. Well we got out and it wasnt Mickey for sure. It was the most ugliest little puppy you have ever seen. It was a giant head with giant eyeballs and a little skinny body. I said to hubbby OMG its so ugly. Hubby went in the house and got a can of dog food and brought out to it and he gobbled it down so fast. Hubby scooped him up and took him in the house and called him Lucky cause he was Lucky to have ended up with us. He is absolutely the most loving dog I have ever had. He lays his little head on your chest and looks up at you with those still BIG eyes and your heart just melts.

Bettle is a Neutered Male 9yr old Saddleback Beagle. Beetle was found as a stray while I worked at the pound. A beagle rescue was to adopt him but needed him boarded until they could arrange transport to get him. I agreed to take him home and keep him for them. Of course he had kennel cough and my other 2 got it. 2 long weeks of hacking and coughing!! After a month and the rescue was still unable to arrange his transport, my boss said to bring him back and they would gas him the next day. Are you kidding me, I told her. Absolutely not. So he has been with us for 4 years now!!! He has arthritis and osselets in all his joints and has a hard time getting around, but all in all he is doing pretty good.

Missy is a Spayed female 5yr old Sheltie mix. She was rescued from the Holmes county dog pound on her gassing day. She was terrified of men. It took 3 long years of my husbands constantly showering her with attention and affection before she could trust him. She is absolutely terrified to this day if you walk near her with ANYTHING in your hand. She is a loveable little girl though.

Leroy is a Neutered male 3yrold Black & Tan, Coonhound mix. He came from that local No Kill shelter I was with. He and his litter mates were turned in when they were 5 weeks old. He had 5 abdominal hernias and had surgery at 6 weeks old. Then he developed a heart murmur and they thought he had lymphoma. The one vet said that he would not live to be 2 yrs old. Fooled them. He now weighs 95 pounds. He loves to play fetch and he thinks he is a small dog. He plays like a puppy.

Molly is a 1yr old Spayed female CockaPoo mix. She came from the same shelter. She was completely matted to the bone and bones is all she was. She barely weighed 7 pounds. She was so matted that we thought she was an old dog. I brought her home and clipped her all up and out of that pile of hair came an overactive playful little pup. I had her spayed and the vet said she was just having her first heat cycle and was only about 6 months old. That was 4 months ago. She loves to play tug of war with Leroy the hound dog. She does do something a bit odd though. She lets the 6 month old kittens nurse on her. Sometimes she will have as many as 3 of them nursing at a time. I cant figure it out as she can not have any milk, but they all dog and kittens seem to get something out of it.

Granny is a Spayed female 9yr old DLH. She was born when we lived on another farm in WV. She has a lot of health issues now, but she would still rather be outside than in.

Blackie is a Spayed female 9yr old DSH. She was born at the ractrack and has been with us ever since. She is very uppity and doesnt like attention, just food.

Georgie is a Neutered male 6yr old orange DLH. He came from the same local No Kill shelter as Leroy and Molly. He was turned in there along with a dog by his owners who could not take care of them anymore. He loves attention.

Percy is a Neutered male 4yr gray DSH. His momma had a litter of kittens at a place where we had our racehorses and they were all eaten but him. He would hite out behind the big barn door and we would coax him out with food. We brought him home and got him neutered. He loves to roam around the fields.

Tabby is a 2yr Spayed female Tabby cat. She was a drop off out here at our farm. She was here 2 weeks and presented us with a litter of 6 kittens. We got her spayed and she likes to be inside and outside.

The kittens are now 6 months old and we are making appts to get them all fixed.

They are
LoLo, a femaleCalico
Torti, a female Tortoiseshell
Ellie, a female dilute Calico
PJ, a male gray DSH
TJ, a male Tabby
Buff, a male Buff colored DSH

We have 3 retired racehorses. Flame raced under our stable and was retired. She is 14yrs old. She has a daughter Grace who is 7 and has never been broke or ridden, just a pet. Johnny is a 6yr old retired racehorse. He has some mental issues. He walks nonstop day and night, inside and outside in a circle. His original owners said that he did that from birth. No one wanted him because of this. He has a wonderful personality. He only ran about 9 races. He would forget in between races what he was supposed to be doing, poor guy.

And there you have Bonnie's Zoo.

Stay tuned for daily antics
Huggers and Blessings,
Bonnie
